The Baker Brothers is a swing trio consisting of Mark Baker on guitar, Junior Gomes on piano, and Dick Souza on bass. They perform their own arrangements of jazz standards from the thirties to the seventies. The musical emphasis is on improvisation and melodic invention with good taste, an important ingredient. The repertoire includes classics from Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Wes Montgomery. Mark is a URI Music Graduate who has performed throughout New England with many jazz and blues bands for over thirty years. He is former member of the Louie Camp Band, Hot Property and Off the Top Jazz Band as well as leading his own ensembles. Junior Gomes is a veteran piano player who is influenced by Herbie Hancock and Ray Charles. He has performed extensively with the Chili Brothers, Off the Top, and Tobagi throughout New England for over thirty years. Dick Souza is an in demand upright bass player in the New England music scene. He has studied with the jazz bassist Bob Petterutti for several years and is a dedicated musician that is always honing his craft. He performs with many swing and blues groups such as Smokestack Lightning, Loaded Dice and Acme Trucking. Together the Baker Brothers combine their talents to create their own unique blues and jazz arrangements that will have you swinging and swaying to an infectious and melodious rhythm.
